JOHNSON is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina where he currently resides. A magna cum laude graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a degree in Music/Vocal Performance, JOHNSON infuses his musical training with his calling to minister. He uses his education to give back to others as a vocal coach. Still, he somehow manages to shine as an award-winning artist in his own right. This national recording artist has been featured on Edwin Hawkins music and has even braved the stage at the famous Amateur Night on Showtime at the Apollo. Other recorded work includes collaborations with gospel legends Daryl Coley and John P. Kee.
His off-stage career is serving as fatherhood educator for the training team of NC Children’s Home Society. JOHNSON is a dedicated family man to his lovely wife and three adoring children
THE ACTOR
Walter Johnson is an accomplished actor whose talents have taken him across the country and around the world. WALTER’s acting career dates back to the early 90’s when he starred in the powerful touring gospel stage play “A Good Man Is Hard to Find”. Currently JOHNSON is appearing in the revived gospel presentation “My Grandmother Prayed for Me”, a moving gospel production has which is now a feature production in the Off-Broadway circuit.
This gifted performer has the ability to performance across a wide range of genres enabling him to bring humor and charm a la Cab Calloway as he did in “Showtime in Harlem” or to appear as a soulful 50’s crooner in “Smokey Joe’s Café”. From opera to gospel- and all genres in between- Johnson’s versatility enables him to captivate the audience and take them on a musical journey. Johnson’s many other stage credits include “Peace Like A River”, “Black Nativity” and “The Color Purple”.
HIS MUSIC
With a voice that draws listeners in and touches the heart, WALTER JOHNSON pours himself into his music. Delivering songs of encouragement and inspiration, his music takes listeners on a spiritual journey. As a man of great faith, Johnson shares his personal testimony of tested-faith and near hopelessness. From tragedy to triumph, Johnson’s music makes him relatable to his audience and ultimately brings listeners to a level of intense worship.
His latest addition to his body of work, “The Encounter”, chronicles his life’s lowest moments and the joy of overcoming with the help of the Savior.
THE COACH
A magna cum laude graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, JOHNSON holds a BA degree in Music/Voice and is a world-class vocal coach. Under his tutelage, students learn the proper care and usage of the vocal instrument. Students are encouraged to expressive singers, bringing their true self to the music. Many of JOHNSON’s former students have gone on to become professional performers and vocal coaches to popular recording artists!
